Today we pretended we lived in a village and we all had different jobs to do to provide for the people. Some of us were farmers who grew fruit and vegetables and provided milk for the making of cheese, cream and butter. There were woodcutters who had the heavy duty task of chopping up logs for our fires. The bakers kept us in bread and cakes, while the weavers made warm clothes and blankets. It's a busy village with plenty for doing. Can you guess from our pictures what tasks we were miming??

Magnets
We used our magnets to investigate what classroom materials they were attracted to. They stick to thinks like paperclips, scissors, light switches, coins and many other items that have metal in them. We discovered that they like to stick to each other but only if you hold them in a certain way.

Sign of spring
Today we went on a nature walk to try and see some signs that spring has arrived. We saw daffodils beginning to appear and some snowdrops in full bloom.
We spotted yellow, purple and white crocuses, some hyacinths and pretty pink blossoms appearing on some shrubs.
We found catkins on the hazel tree and lots of buds sprouting on tree branches. Spring has definitely arrived!

PE time and silent reading
We learned how to grip the racket properly and tried carrying the beanbag on the racket while walking , jogging and running!
Then we tried tossing the beanbag on the racket while stationary, walking and jogging.
We really had to concentrate!
Sometimes we had to look at others to see if we were doing it right.
Sometimes we like to sit in the quiet corner and read one of the books from our library.

Materials that absorb water
We experimented with various materials to see which ones like to absorb water. We discovered tissue, cotton, wool and paper like to soak up water whereas plastic does not which makes it a good waterproof material for our coats during wet weather.
Music in the Classroom
We went to Leisureland on the 18th of January to see the RTE National Concert Orchestra .They played ten pieces of music which we could sing, clap or make actions to as we were familiar with the music from practising it in the classroom .
